Its form takes its cue from the pure, tapering line of a Habano cigar, and it is offered in matte aluminium or in varnished ebony, true to the architect’s love of honest, tactile materials.
The Lebond Souto Moura Pen is one of the first two editions in Lebond’s collection of architect-designed pens, authored by Eduardo Souto de Moura with complete design freedom. It is made from sandblasted aluminium with a natural anodised finish or from varnished ebony wood, and it arrives with a handmade leather sleeve, a presentation case and a ten-year warranty. Like the rest of the collection, it is an instrument made to be used every day.
Souto de Moura shaped the pen around a single, quiet idea: the pure line of a Habano cigar, gently tapered and perfectly resolved. It is a fitting reference for an architect celebrated for reduction, for finding the one form that needs no addition. Eduardo Souto de Moura is a Portuguese architect, born in 1952 in Porto, known for combining the clean lines of abstract minimalism with local materials and building techniques. In 2011 he received the Pritzker Prize for an architecture that appears effortless, serene and simple. The jury noted his range with the words: “He has the confidence to use stone that is a thousand years old, or to take inspiration from a modern detail by Mies van der Rohe.” The pen carries the same confidence in miniature.
The Lebond Souto Moura Pen is, above all, a tool.
